Aston Villa planning January moves as Unai Emery eyes new striker

Aston Villa are preparing to be active in the January transfer window. Manager Unai Emery is signalling that his side could look to strengthen up front.

Villa have been strongly placed in the English Premier League this season, sitting near the top of the table and building momentum under Emery’s leadership. However, they still see areas to improve as the campaign heads into the new year.

Aston Villa’s attack has been effective at times, particularly in their recent run of victories, but Emery is keen to add depth and quality to his squad in January.

Argentine player to join the Premier League?

One player linked with a possible move is Santiago Castro, the 21-year-old Argentine striker currently at Bologna.

Villa are reported to be a long-term admirer of Castro. They have been monitoring him for some time, with scouts watching his progress in Serie A.

Chelsea and other Premier League clubs are also interested, with a transfer fee in the region of €40-50 million for the forward.

Castro is seen as a possible long-term successor to current striker Ollie Watkins, and his mobility and pressing ability could fit well into Emery’s system.

Villa are tracking him closely and could make a move if the February or January window presents the right opportunity.

Where Villa stand

Despite their strong league position, Villa will have to balance ambition with financial realities.

Emery has acknowledged that the club is operating under Financial Fair Play constraints. This could limit big-money signings.

But he remains hopeful that Villa can still make smart moves that improve the squad without putting the club at risk.

While realistic about the challenges ahead, he stressed that Villa are intent on ambitious growth, both this season and beyond.

The January transfer window will be crucial for Villa’s aspirations. Adding a forward like Castro could give Emery fresh options. It will also help maintain their strong form into the second half of the season.

Villa will aim to strike deals that keep them competitive on all fronts.
