Chelsea plotting surprise loan move for Nottingham Forest new boy

Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong has emerged as a potential transfer target for Crystal Palace during the current window, as the Eagles look to strengthen their defensive options, while Liam Rosenior’s side eye up a Nottingham Forest new boy.

According to Sky Sports News, Palace are exploring both short-term and long-term solutions to replace the void left by former captain Marc Guehi.

The 19-year-old Acheampong is one of several names under discussion as the club assesses its options.

Strong Chelsea-Palace relationship could aid talks

No formal talks have yet taken place between Palace and Chelsea, but the two clubs maintain a strong working relationship.

In recent seasons, several players have moved between Stamford Bridge and Selhurst Park, helping smooth negotiations when opportunities arise.

Last season, Chelsea allowed Trevoh Chalobah and Ben Chilwell to join Palace on loan. Before that, Marc Guehi himself and Conor Gallagher both made the switch, with Guehi going on to establish himself as a key figure at the south London club.

That history could play a role if Palace decide to step up their interest in Acheampong.

It remains unclear whether Chelsea would consider a permanent sale or prefer a loan move for the young defender.

What now for Chelsea and Acheampong?

The Blues are currently dealing with multiple defensive injuries and are actively searching for a centre-back of their own.

That situation could make them reluctant to part with Acheampong on a full-time basis at this stage.

Under new head coach Liam Rosenior, he has started both domestic cup matches and has featured in the club’s last four Premier League games, gaining valuable top-flight experience.

His recent involvement suggests Chelsea still see him as a useful squad option, at least in the short term.

Chelsea look to loan Douglas Luiz

Meanwhile, Chelsea are also active in the loan market as they look to bolster their midfield depth. Douglas Luiz has been identified as one of their loan targets this month.

Luiz is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus but has struggled for regular minutes. Chelsea are seeking cover for Moises Caicedo, with Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo both sidelined through injury.

Forest hold an option to buy Luiz, which would become an obligation if he reaches a certain number of appearances.

That clause could complicate any potential move, but Chelsea remain alert to opportunities as they manage injuries and squad balance.
