Over 2.5 goals

Combined odds: +320 on Fanduel

Manchester United welcome Tottenham to Old Trafford this weekend, aiming to continue their revival under interim boss Michael Carrick and make it four wins on the bounce.

Confidence is clearly returning to the red half of Manchester, who knows, at this rate, a certain United fan might even stop wearing a hat and finally get that long-overdue haircut.

Tottenham arrive after one of those games that somehow sum them up perfectly. They fought back from 2-0 down against Manchester City to rescue a 2-2 draw, temporarily quietening the noise around their manager and buying him at least another week.

United’s last match nearly followed the same script, just with added chaos. Two goals up against Fulham with five minutes to play, they somehow managed to make life difficult for themselves, conceding twice before grabbing a dramatic stoppage-time winner.

Nobody wants to have “Carrick time” become a thing.

The two Premier League sides are chasing very different goals heading into this one. United are pushing to cement a top-four place, while Spurs are once again trying to avoid that familiar sinking feeling of a disappointing bottom-half finish.

History, however, favours Tottenham. Spurs are unbeaten against United in their last eight meetings in all competitions, including a memorable 3-0 win at Old Trafford last season and, of course, the Europa League final.

What are the best bets for Man Utd vs Tottenham?

Over 2.5 goals

While United are clearly improving under Carrick – and starting to look worryingly like a competent football team again – defensive nerves remain part of the package.

Goals feel inevitable. United’s last two matches have both finished 3-2, while Spurs’ last two games ended 2–2. Even the reverse fixture back in November finished level at 2-2, a scoreline that seems to be attached to Spurs.

With both sides allergic to keeping things simple at the back, over 2.5 goals looks a sensible play.

Bryan Mbuemo to score anytime

In the goalscorer markets, United forward Bryan Mbeumo has returned from AFCON in fine form, scoring twice in three appearances. Given the space Spurs tend to leave behind, he’ll fancy his chances of adding to that tally.

Tottenham may also be stretched defensively, with key absences and doubts over Micky van de Ven’s fitness. If their back line looks patched together again, United should have plenty of joy.

Man United to win

All things considered, this has the feel of a game full of chances, momentum swings, and at least one moment where both sets of fans briefly question their life choices. United to edge it – probably the hard way.
