Newcastle vs Brentford picks, predictions and how to watch

Newcastle to win

Both teams to score

Over 3.5 goals

Newcastle’s season is in danger of unravelling pretty quickly, as they prepare to face Brentford in their next English Premier League match.

The fixture list couldn’t be any worse for the Magpies. They have already visited Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Manchester City all within the last eight days.

It is now one win from their last six matches across all competitions for manager Newcastle, following consecutive defeats at Anfield and the Etihad.

Defeat to City saw them miss out on the chance to defend their Carabao Cup title and reach the final for the third time in four seasons.

Manager Eddie Howe’s side are winless from their last two Premier League matches too, having drawn 0-0 away to Wolves and lost 2-0 at home to Aston Villa.

That first match could’ve sent a glass eye to sleep, but such has been the story of Newcastle’s away form this season.

Luckily for them, they return to St James’ Park this weekend. Unfortunately for them, though, it is to play a Brentford side that defeated the same Aston Villa side that toyed with Newcastle in their previous home match.

Brentford left Villa Park with three points last weekend, despite having a player sent off in the first half.

The result sees the Bees continue to buzz around the European football places, something which nobody saw coming at the start of the season.

They will arrive on Tyneside three points ahead of their hosts in the Premier League table and will know that a win could see them climb up to sixth in the division, should Liverpool lose to Manchester City.

What are the best bets for Newcastle vs Brentford?

Newcastle to win, Both teams to score

I say this as someone who has followed Newcastle home and away my whole life. I really couldn’t tell you what to expect in this match.

Howe’s insistence on playing a repetitive system is making Newcastle a very predictable team and, therefore, easy to play against.

But, perhaps this optimism and not realism, the Magpies are at home, and they continue to show themselves to be an entirely different proposition in NE1.

I’d back Newcastle to win and both teams to score, with Newcastle’s good home record set to be slightly clouded by their poor defensive record of late.

Both teams to score has landed in seven of the last eight matches between these two sides, with at least four goals scored in four of the last five meetings.

Over 3.5 goals

For that reason, over 3.5 goals looks to be a very solid bet in a game that could really go either way.
