Newcastle United have announced that star winger Harvey Barnes has agreed a new long-term contract with the club.
The news comes amid interest from Aston Villa in the twice-capped England international, who had two years remaining on his original deal.
Barnes was signed from Leicester City back in 2023 and has gone on to make 120 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 30 goals in the process.
Special club
After inking the new contract, the 28-year-old told the Newcastle Utd website: “It feels great to sign this new contract so early before the new season starts.
“It’s been an amazing journey so far and I’m delighted to continue that.
“When I first joined the club, I quickly learned what a special place it is, but after three years here I know that even more.
“I love everything about it – the city, the stadium, the people – and I’m really happy extending my time here.
“I’ve had a taste of success in the last few years and enjoyed some really special moments with this team.
“We all want more of that and I want to be a key player that helps push the club forward.”

Deserved contract
Magpies boss Eddie Howe said: “Harvey’s new contract is very well deserved and a reflection of the work he’s put in and the quality he’s shown throughout his three years at Newcastle United.
“Harvey is a player who has consistently produced special moments at vital times for the team.
“He’s calm in front of goal, whether that’s one-on-one or from distance, and is always a threat from wide areas.
“Harvey has vast experience at the highest level, but we believe there is still more to come.”
Prime years
Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson added: “Harvey’s record for the club speaks for itself.
“He managed to reach new heights last season on a personal level and that’s testament to the mentality and professionalism we see on a daily basis.
“We see him as a big part of our plans going forward, and it made total sense to secure his future.
“Much like we’ve done with Fabian Schär and Sven Botman in recent months, we’re delighted to extend that experience into what we see as Harvey’s prime years.”
