Antoine Semenyo has revealed that Manchester City players are quickly embracing Enzo Maresca’s “very detailed” training methods.
Former Man City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, meanwhile, believes the Citizens’ new head coach can enjoy great success at the club.
Maresca returned to Manchester earlier this summer following a spell at Chelsea that included UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup titles.
The Italian succeeded Pep Guardiola at the helm of the 10-time English champions.
Ahead of the new campaign, Man City are taking in a pre-season tour of Asia, meeting Inter Milan in Hong Kong before heading to Seoul to face K League All Stars and Atlético Madrid.
Maresca similar to Guardiola
In an interview with the Man City website, Semenyo said of Maresca’s training methods: “Very good, very detailed.
“He’s got an eye for detail and he wants everything to be right, which is quite similar to Pep.
“That’s good for us as players, so we’ve enjoyed it so far.”
On his readiness for the new season after a summer spent at the 2026 World Cup with Ghana, Semenyo added: “My body feels good.
“I like to think I’m well rested.
“The manager gave me a couple of weeks to relax and reset, so I’m happy to be back with the boys and looking forward to the new season.”

Italian’s Manchester return positive
Speaking to the club’s media team ahead of the game in Hong Kong, Wright-Phillips praised Maresca’s return to Manchester, saying: “It seems like when people leave City, they always eventually come back home.
“For me, I’ve seen him come back home and looking forward to see what he does and what he achieves in this blue shirt.
“I think he went to Chelsea and kind of steadied that ship, picked his squad.
“And in his short tenure, he was successful.
“I know through hearing from Chelsea fans a lot of them were gutted he left, including the players as well, so to have him over here now and the players enjoying him – it’s all positives.”
Pre-season key to plans
Asked about the importance of a good pre-season to a successful campaign, Wright-Phillips stated: “It’s a massive part of it.
“Back in my time, a lot of the senior players used to call it money in the bank.
“It’s almost like your back-up.
“You’re setting yourself a baseline and then from there normally you get fitter and fitter from that point.
“So, to get that match practice and especially for the younger lads coming through, they’ve got to see it as a massive opportunity for them to, in many ways, stake their claim in that first-team squad.”
