Chelsea outcast Liam Delap has signed for Nottingham Forest in a club-record £50 million deal.
Despite scoring on only three occasions for the Blues in 47 games, Chelsea will make a £20m profit on Delap after acquiring the striker from Ipswich Town for £30m a season ago.
Delap will be looking to revive the form that made him desirable to the West London side in the first place, with Forest in desperate need of a reliable figure to lead their line.
Optimistic move
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Special, Tim Sherwood conveyed an optimistic point of view regarding Delap’s move.
“We know Liam’s got the ability; he’s shown that in the past,” Sherwood said.
“He needs to play on a regular basis now. He needs to stay fit.
“It never worked out at Chelsea. I never think he ever got a run in the team to give that striker the confidence.
“You need the manager to love you and play you every week, even if you’re not playing well.
“I think he’ll get that with [Oliver] Glasner – you’ve seen that with (Jean-Philippe Mateta) at Palace.”

“He [Glasner] likes to play with a big striker; he likes support. If he [Delap] can keep up with play, I think he’ll score goals for Nottingham Forest, and I believe he will keep up with play,” Sherwood added.
“I think he’s aggressive; he’s got a lot of attributes to be a top, top striker, but Chelsea just did not work for him, and that’s what happens.
“Forget about the price tag because the price tags all over the Premier League now are just ridiculous.”
Delap is scheduled to complete his medical with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.
