Liverpool piled more pressure on Roberto De Zerbi and Tottenham Hotspur as the Reds walked away with a 3-1 victory in the Carabao Cup third round on Tuesday.
A stoppage-time Dominik Szoboszlai screamer put the tie to bed, while Conor Gallagher ended Tottenham’s goal drought this season after nodding one home in the 69th minute.
Liverpool made 10 changes from the side that drew with Fulham at the weekend, with Joe Gomez making his first appearance of the season following injury and player of the match Lewis Koumas among those given an opportunity to impress.
Szoboszlai scores ‘worldie’
“Three goals we scored were very good goals; the origin of the goals for the first and second ones was also very important for us,” Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola told Sky Sports.
“The third one is a worldie. With other players you are thinking it is too far. With Dom you are thinking he might score.”
The result sends Liverpool into the fourth round, while Tottenham’s difficult start under De Zerbi continued despite creating enough opportunities to make the contest closer.

Positivity despite disappointment
“We created chances to win the game. It’s not a very good moment, but I believe in my players,” De Zerbi said.
“We need a click. I don’t know if we are able to make this click Saturday [against Aston Villa].
“But playing like this and believing in ourselves and our style of play, I think we’ll win many games and score many goals because the qualities of my players is very high.”

“I think we didn’t deserve to lose, but it’s the first season. We are building totally different things with me,” De Zerbi added.
“I believe in my players, this project. I have no doubts.
“I believe in this club, but now we are not so lucky.”
