Michael Carrick promises that Manchester United will display “hunger” and determination against Chelsea this weekend.
The struggling Red Devils have not won since early September and travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday for a Premier League clash with Xabi Alonso’s Blues.
Carrick also backed captain Bruno Fernandes, who was dropped for the recent loss to Bournemouth after criticising the United coaching staff in the wake of a Champions League defeat at Como.
United are ‘hungry’
Ahead of this weekend’s trip to London, Carrick was asked about the feeling in the United camp and told Sky Sports: “My responsibility is the players. The outside is not anything for me to focus on.
“I know what we can affect, I know what we need to improve. I know as a group what help they need a little bit as well and a bit of guidance at certain times and dealing with certain things.
“Part of my direct role is them, who I care about and can affect the most directly, and of course we spoke.
“We have meetings as we do every single week, but some of the meetings go in different ways, depending on results, the situation and the feeling.
“The boys, I have to say, are hungry.
“We’re hurting because we haven’t won enough football games, but there’s an intensity, there’s a bit of an edge, there’s a disappointment, there’s a hunger to do better, for sure.”

Carrick backs Fernandes
On bringing Fernandes back in from the cold, Carrick added: “It’s not about comparison. He’s the captain of our football club.
“There are different personalities, different characters, different ways to lead. It all comes down to what happens on the football pitch and whether you win or not.
“Questions get asked, I understand, but he cares deeply about this club and the team. He’s desperate to do well.
“We’ll lead that together.”
