Arsenal waited 14 years to win a Premier League match at Anfield. Having finally managed it, Mikel Arteta’s side now have the rather less intimidating prospect of welcoming Hull City to the Emirates.
A 1-0 victory over Liverpool last Sunday sent the defending champions three points clear at the top of the table. Kai Havertz scored the winner, and Arsenal produced the sort of defensive performance that makes title rivals wonder where the dropped points are supposed to come from.
Wednesday’s 2-1 Champions League victory away to Slavia Prague added another win to the collection, with Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyökeres on the scoresheet.
Arsenal have now won eight of their opening nine Premier League matches, collecting 24 points and establishing themselves as the early favourites to retain their title.
Hull’s season has been rather less convincing.
Sergej Jakirović’s side started brightly following promotion, but they have since gone eight matches without a victory in all competitions. Their latest outing ended in a 2-2 draw against fellow promoted side Ipswich Town.
The Tigers have at least proved difficult to put away. Five draws from nine league matches have kept them 11th, although a trip to the league leaders is unlikely to improve their mood.
Arsenal could temporarily move six points clear with another victory on Saturday, and given that they remain the only Premier League side with a perfect home record, Hull have picked an awkward afternoon to attempt a revival.

What are the best betting tips for Arsenal vs Hull?
Arsenal to win to nil
Arsenal’s defensive performances have been central to their outstanding start. Their victory at Anfield was particularly impressive, with Liverpool struggling to create meaningful opportunities against Arteta’s organised back line.
The Gunners have also won all four of their Premier League home matches this season. Even when they have not been at their attacking best, they have generally found ways to control games and protect narrow leads.
Hull have managed just 11 goals in nine league matches, and their recent away performances offer little encouragement. Defeats at Newcastle and Fulham exposed their difficulty creating chances against stronger opponents.
Jakirović will almost certainly prioritise keeping his side compact, but that could leave Oli McBurnie isolated against Arsenal’s central defenders.
Arsenal’s ability to dominate possession while limiting opposition chances makes a home victory without conceding an appealing selection.
Arsenal to win both halves
Hull’s likely defensive approach could make this a more demanding selection than the league positions suggest, but Arsenal have the attacking quality to establish control early.
The visitors conceded twice against Ipswich last weekend and allowed four big chances despite facing another newly promoted side. Giving Arsenal that much space would be considerably more expensive.
Madueke and Christos Tzolis offer direct attacking options on either flank, while Martin Ødegaard can exploit the gaps between Hull’s midfield and defence.
Arsenal have also shown an ability to manage matches once ahead. Rather than simply protecting a lead, they can sustain pressure through their midfield and force opponents into increasingly defensive positions.
With Hull winless in eight matches across all competitions, Arsenal winning both halves offers a more ambitious alternative to the short-priced home victory.
Noni Madueke to score or assist
Madueke has an opportunity to make himself particularly difficult to leave out while Bukayo Saka remains sidelined.
The winger scored against Slavia Prague in midweek and should retain his place on Arsenal’s right flank. His direct running and ability to attack defenders one-on-one could be important against Hull’s expected five-man defence.
Hull’s wing-backs will have to balance defensive responsibilities with providing an outlet on the counterattack. If they push forward, Madueke could find space behind them. If they stay deep, he should receive plenty of opportunities to attack from wide positions.
Arsenal’s attacking movement also gives him several options when delivering into the penalty area, particularly with Havertz expected to lead the line.
A goal or assist looks an interesting individual selection without relying entirely on Madueke’s finishing.

Predicted XI: Raya; Timber, Mosquera, Gabriel, Calafiori; Guimarães, Rice; Madueke, Ødegaard, Tzolis; Havertz.
Mikel Arteta has received a defensive boost with William Saliba returning to the matchday squad following a lengthy back injury. However, the Frenchman remained an unused substitute against Slavia Prague, making an immediate Premier League start uncertain.
Ezri Konsa is a doubt after being withdrawn during Wednesday’s Champions League victory. Cristhian Mosquera could deputise alongside Gabriel if Konsa fails to recover.
Bukayo Saka remains unavailable with a quadriceps injury, while Max Dowman serves the second match of his three-game domestic suspension following his red card against Fleetwood Town.
Viktor Gyökeres is pushing for a starting place after scoring and assisting in Prague, but Kai Havertz could retain his position following his decisive goal against Liverpool.
Hull predicted lineup and team news
Predicted formation: 5-4-1
Predicted XI: Tzolakis; Coyle, Egan, Mendy, Ajayi, Giles; Belloumi, Slater, Iroegbunam, Stroud; McBurnie.
Sergej Jakirović has several absences to contend with ahead of Hull’s trip to North London.
Matt Crooks is suspended after collecting his fifth Premier League yellow card against Ipswich. His absence adds to an injury list featuring Eliot Matazo, Matt Targett, Lucas Gourna-Douath, Ilyas Ansah, Darko Gyabi and Charlie Hughes.
Goalkeeper Jack Butland could return to the squad following an arm injury, although Konstantinos Tzolakis is expected to retain his starting place.
Oli McBurnie should lead the attack, supported by Mohamed Belloumi, who has been Hull’s most productive attacking player this season. The visitors are likely to adopt a compact five-man defence, with Lewie Coyle and Ryan Giles operating as wing-backs.

Arsenal vs Hull prediction
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have made an outstanding start to their title defence, and their victory at Liverpool demonstrated that they can win difficult matches without needing to produce their most fluent attacking football.
That ability to control games should be particularly important against Hull.
Jakirović’s side have shown plenty of resilience, with five league draws suggesting they are not an easy opponent to overcome. However, their defensive record has deteriorated, and they have struggled to produce consistent attacking performances.
Arsenal should dominate possession and spend extended periods operating around Hull’s penalty area. The visitors will attempt to frustrate them with a compact defensive shape, but sustaining that approach for 90 minutes against the league leaders is a demanding task.
The potential involvement of Madueke, Ødegaard and Havertz gives Arsenal several ways to unlock a deep defence, while their midfield should limit Hull’s opportunities to counterattack.
There is also the question of fatigue following Wednesday’s Champions League trip, although Arteta has enough squad depth to make changes without significantly weakening his starting lineup.
Hull may keep things competitive initially, but Arsenal’s quality and defensive organisation should eventually prove decisive.
