Arsenal agree £75m deal for Bruno Guimaraes as Newcastle Utd captain heads for medical

Arsenal have agreed a £75 million deal with Newcastle United for captain Bruno Guimaraes, with the Brazil international now set to undergo a medical before completing his move to the Premier League champions.

The agreement signals an end to one of the summer’s biggest transfer sagas after Newcastle initially resisted Arsenal’s interest in the midfielder.

Guimaraes, who has two years remaining on his contract at St James’ Park, has now been given permission to travel as the Gunners close in on securing one of their priority transfer targets.

An elite signing

The 28-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s elite midfielders since arriving from Lyon, becoming a key figure at Newcastle through his technical quality, leadership and all-action displays in the centre of the pitch.

His expected arrival represents another major statement of intent from Mikel Arteta as Arsenal continue strengthening a squad that claimed the Premier League title last season and are aiming to compete on multiple fronts once again.

Sky Sports reports that negotiations gathered pace after Arsenal and Newcastle reached a compromise on the transfer fee, allowing the deal to move towards its final stages.

Medical pending

The midfielder is now expected to complete the necessary medical examinations before formally signing his contract with the North London club.

For Newcastle, Guimaraes’ departure would represent the loss of both their captain and one of their most influential players, while Arsenal would acquire a midfielder capable of adding further control, creativity and defensive intensity to an already formidable side.

Although the transfer is yet to be officially completed, the agreement between the clubs means Arsenal are now on the verge of landing one of Europe’s most sought-after midfielders.

Should the medical proceed as expected, Guimaraes will become another marquee addition to Arteta’s squad as the Gunners continue an ambitious summer rebuild ahead of the new campaign.
