Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has agreed to extend his stay at the Emirates Stadium after securing long-awaited Premier League glory last term.
The Spaniard was into the final year of his current deal but is now committed to remaining in north London beyond next summer.
Since arriving in 2019, Arteta has delivered the club’s first league success in 22 years alongside a Champions League final appearance, an FA Cup and three Community Shields.
An official announcement about the extension is expected during the international break.
Arteta, Arsenal have ‘same ambition’
Ahead of the trip to face Brighton last weekend, a game which the Gunners lost 3-0, Arteta told Sky Sports regarding a new deal: “I think we are all very much aligned.
“Whenever the time is right, we’ll get that done.
“There is nothing to be concerned about – I think we both have the same ambition and the same will.
“So, whenever we have time, we’ll get that resolved.”

Cotterill expects imminent contract announcement
Sky Sports pundit Gary Cotterill has since offered his thoughts on the situation, saying: “It’s not signed yet.
“Officially, the club are not saying it has been agreed, but our understanding is that an agreement has been in place for a couple of weeks.
“Mikel Arteta alluded to that on Friday when I asked him about it. He said they are aligned and in agreement.
“So, I believe the deal is agreed. It’s now a case of sorting the formalities, sitting down and signing the contract.
“I expect that to happen during the next international break, potentially within the next two weeks.
“When he signed his current contract two years ago, that was also completed during the international break, on September 12.
“He tends to compartmentalise things. He has a break, then turns his attention to his future.
“The agreement has been in place for weeks. The only thing left now is to get the contract signed and make the announcement.
“The full details of the deal should follow in the coming weeks.”
