Arsenal’s hopes of signing Vinicius Junior have come to an end after the Brazil international signed a new six-year contract with Real Madrid, ending months of speculation surrounding his future.
The 26-year-old had entered the final year of his previous deal, prompting Arsenal to closely monitor the situation as Mikel Arteta searched for an elite left-sided attacker.
However, Real Madrid remained confident throughout negotiations and have now secured one of their biggest stars on a long-term contract.
A Galactico once again
Vinicius, who joined the Spanish giants from Flamengo as an 18-year-old, celebrated the announcement with an emotional message on social media.
“Eight years at the Bernabeu is too short… six more years and forever,” he wrote on his Instagram story.
In a statement confirming the extension, Real Madrid praised the Brazilian’s impact since arriving in Spain.
“Vinicius Jr has become one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in our history.”

Transfer setback
The contract renewal represents a significant setback for Arsenal, who viewed Vinicius as one of the few players capable of immediately strengthening their attack.
Despite missing out on the Brazilian, Arteta remains confident Arsenal can continue building a squad capable of competing for every major honour.
“We’re even more excited,” Arteta said after Arsenal’s 3-1 pre-season defeat to Real Betis.
“We are going to attack every possible title as that’s the ambition we have.
“We will go from strength to strength – whether it’s the players we have, to take them to a different level, or with the market that is still open to recruit as well. We’re optimistic about it.”
Despite Arsenal’s pursuit of Vinicius coming to an end, the Premier League champions will look to remain active in the transfer market as they continue strengthening their attack ahead of the new campaign.
