Matthias Jaissle admitted he understood the frustration of Newcastle United supporters after his side suffered a 1-0 Premier League defeat to Everton at St James’ Park on Monday.
Thierno Barry scored the only goal of the game shortly after half-time, before substitute Jacob Ramsey was sent off in stoppage time.
The result condemned Newcastle Utd to back-to-back home defeats, with supporters booing the team at half-time and the final whistle.
Jaissle takes responsibility
The Newcastle Utd head coach accepted responsibility for another disappointing display, admitting his players failed to reproduce the work they had put in during training.
“After a performance like that, I can understand that. That’s a reality, and I am responsible for that,” Jaissle told Sky Sports when asked about the boos.
The German was particularly frustrated by his side’s approach in possession, believing Newcastle lacked the courage to play through Everton.
“We were not brave enough in possession. Too many long balls,” he added.
Jaissle also acknowledged that confidence was becoming an issue throughout the squad, including among experienced players, as Newcastle attempt to navigate a period of transition.

Barry punishes Magpies after defensive error
Everton secured the points through Barry’s 49th-minute strike after Tyrique George’s effort slipped beneath goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek, allowing the striker to convert from close range.
Newcastle struggled to create clear opportunities, with Anthony Elanga hitting the post before Ramsey’s late dismissal compounded their frustration.
The substitute received two yellow cards within 86 seconds, leaving the hosts with 10 players for the closing stages.
Moyes praises Everton’s commitment
David Moyes was delighted with his side’s performance, particularly after making it two victories over Newcastle in four days following their Carabao Cup success.
“I’m incredibly proud of the team all the time because their effort and their commitment are unquestionable,” he said.
The Everton manager also highlighted his team’s improving attacking threat and ambition to climb the Premier League table.
The victory moved Everton up to seventh, while Newcastle dropped to 13th after losing four of their last five matches in all competitions.
