Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa and Anthony Gordon of Newcastle challenge for the ball

Aston Villa vs Newcastle picks, predictions and how to watch

Aston Villa to win: +135

Aston Villa and Newcastle meet in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday evening, with both teams arriving off the back of English Premier League victories during the week.

The hosts needed 87 minutes to find the net at home to Brighton, who haven’t won any of their last 13 Premier League matches.

Tyrone Mings bagged the only goal of the contest, earning Villa an important three points in their quest for Champions League qualification.

It ended a run of two consecutive home league defeats for manager Unai Emery’s side, who now face Newcastle, after they dealt the final blow to Thomas Frank on Tuesday night.

A game which was rightfully dubbed ‘el sackico’ lived up to it’s name. Tottenham parted company with Frank following Newcastle’s victory.

It was only the third away win of the Premier League campaign for manager Eddie Howe’s side, as they earned a much needed win in their bid to retain European football on Tyneside.

What are the best picks for Aston Villa vs Newcastle?

Aston Villa to win

Newcastle’s ridiculous fixture list sends them to the back end of Europe next week, then back to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City for the third time in 2026, just days after.

Expect a heavily rotated side from the win at Tottenham, along with the absence of Bruno Guimaraes – who limped off injured in the final minutes in North London.

It’s a basic pick I know, but I’d take Aston Villa to win this match. But for minor stumbles against Everton and Brentford, they are flying at home. Not to mention, Newcastle’s away record this season – and at Villa Park – suggests a difficult evening.

Lamare Bogarde to get carded

Much to my annoyance as a punter, but delight as a Newcastle fan, John McGinn is also injured, meaning I cannot back him to be fouled.

Instead, I’d take Lamare Bogarde to get carded. He has seen five yellow cards in the Premier League this season and is likely to play this game because of his versatility.

Jacob Ramsey to be fouled twice

Jacob Ramsey to be fouled twice. This is a bet that I have enjoyed placing in multiples across the last few games, given that he is now getting more gametime in a black and white shirt.

Combining the three above selections should make for a decent return, at least I’d hope so.
