In a season where everything is going wrong for manager Vitor Pereira’s Wolves side, they find themselves taking part in an all-English Premier League tie for the second time in this competition, as they host Chelsea at Molineux.

A home win over Everton in the last round remains their only win of the 2025/26 season so far, as they sit bottom of the English Premier League table.

Chelsea will travel to the Black Country after beating Lincoln in the last round, though they make the trip off the back of a disappointing home defeat to Sunderland, in their latest English Premier League match.

Wednesday’s 8pm kick-off comes from St James’ Park, where manager Eddie Howe’s Newcastle host Tottenham.

The reigning Carabao Cup champions began their title defence with an emphatic win over Bradford City, but will face much tougher opposition in this round, as Tottenham make the journey to the North East.

They have conceded only one goal at the Emirates Stadium so far this campaign, and remain unbeaten in all of their home matches.

Liverpool have won only one of their last five matches going into this game and this selection has landed in eight of their last nine matches across all competitions.

This selection has also paid dividends in both matches between these two sides this season.

Man City to win to nil 

Without discrediting Swansea, Man City have shown improved form in recent weeks and the quality that they possess should be too much for the Welsh side to overcome.

Prior to defeat away to Aston Villa, it had been nine matches across all competitions since Man City were last defeated.

Chelsea, though they obviously possess more quality, aren’t helped by the amount of injuries in their squad and they have shown themselves to be defensively vulnerable.

I fancy Wolves to, at least, make a game of it on Wednesday night, having scored in every one of their home matches since the opening day of the 2025/26 season.

Newcastle to win 

Results haven’t really told the story on Tyneside this season, with stoppage-time defeats to English Premier League champions Liverpool and title protagonists Arsenal the only domestic home matches in which they have failed to win.

With two wins from three matches in the UEFA Champions League, a win over Fulham at the weekend and a good record over Wednesday’s opponents, the holders are sure to be confident of progressing in a bid to retain the trophy.
