Qualification is no longer the headline on the final night of the Champions League league phase for our Premier League teams. Arsenal have romped the league, winning all seven matches.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City, Newcastle, and Tottenham are in the top 11 and heading toward the playoffs, at least. So, what is at stake?

Mikel Arteta’s side can make history by becoming the first team to win eight consecutive Champions League fixtures by two or more goals.

Liverpool and Tottenham can probably afford to draw and still finish in the top eight.

Chelsea and Newcastle, on the other hand, may need to win. Man City? Well, they definitely need to win as they sit 11th in the standings.

Arsenal vs Kairat

Arsenal’s work is already done in terms of progression. Seven wins from seven have secured first place, leaving Mikel Arteta free to rotate without consequence.

Arsenal can become the first side in European Cup or Champions League history to win eight consecutive matches by a margin of two goals or more, a record that sits within reach after another dominant league phase campaign.

Kairat arrive bottom having taken just one point and conceded 19 goals, and even a rotated Arsenal side should control the game. The question is not whether Arsenal win, but by how many goals? A fair few, you’d think.

Liverpool vs Qarabag

Liverpool begin the night fourth on 15 points, which looks comfortable until you glance at the cluster behind them. A win guarantees a top-eight finish. A draw may be enough. A defeat opens the door.

Europe has been kinder to Liverpool than domestic competition of late, but defensive absences remain an issue. Ibrahima Konaté and Joe Gomez are both unavailable, which is likely to see Wataru Endo partner Virgil van Dijk at centre-back.

Qarabağ still have something to play for at 18th and have already beaten Eintracht Frankfurt in this phase. Liverpool should dominate possession and territory, but the visitors have shown enough to suggest they can get on the scoresheet.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham sit fifth on 14 points and know a win would remove any doubt about finishing inside the top eight. Frankfurt, by contrast, are already eliminated and have nothing riding on the final night.

Spurs’ domestic form remains patchy, but their Champions League campaign has been far more reliable, and this feels like a fixture that should suit them if approached correctly.

Frankfurt have struggled throughout the league phase and arrive on a poor run. If Tottenham are serious about avoiding the play-offs, this is the sort of game they need to handle without drama.

Napoli vs Chelsea

Chelsea occupy eighth place on 13 points, sitting on the cut line between automatic qualification and the play-offs. Napoli sit 25th and must win to extend their European campaign.

Antonio Conte’s side are short on options and heavily depleted, but motivation will not be an issue. Chelsea, meanwhile, arrive knowing a win likely secures a top-eight finish, while a draw could yet be enough depending on results elsewhere.

Dropped points would open the door, though, so Chelsea can’t afford to go through the motions. Napoli’s season has been disjointed, but they’ve more than enough quality to win.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Newcastle United

Newcastle head to Paris level on points with PSG, separated only by goals scored. Both are guaranteed at least a play-off place, but a top-eight finish remains within reach.

Away form has been an issue for Newcastle all season, and midfield absences leave them light in an area where control will matter. PSG’s home record in this competition is strong, but they have conceded regularly, which keeps the door open.

This feels like a game that could swing late, especially if news filters through that either team needs to find a winning goal.

Man City vs Galatasaray

Man City begin the night 11th on 13 points, already assured of knockout football but outside the top eight and reliant on other results if they are to climb back into it.

Victory over Galatasaray is essential, but it may not be enough. City’s recent performances have been sloppy, particularly in transition, and even a controlled home win could still leave them preparing for a play-off tie.

On the other hand, Galatasaray will use the lack of pressure as an opportunity to fight fire with fire. This could be the game of the night.
