The international break has rolled back around, and while it’s nice to pretend we suddenly care about international friendlies, we don’t.

Every fan of a Premier League team dreads international breaks, with your star players going off to play in pointless games where they will no doubt pick up an injury and derail your entire season.

But, whilst we aren’t the biggest fans of these friendlies, it is still football, and it does still present us with the opportunity to make some money with a nice little parlay.

So with that being said, here are my picks to fill that Premier League-sized void in your weekend.

England vs Uruguay

England to win

There’s always added pressure surrounding England in the build-up to a major tournament, and this year is no exception.

Uruguay may not be the force they once were, but they remain exactly the kind of team that has historically caused England problems – organised, physical, and capable of punishing mistakes.

That said, under Tuchel, England will be eager to make a statement ahead of the World Cup. This is a perfect opportunity to build momentum and confidence.

I expect them to do exactly that. England to win.

Netherlands vs Norway

Netherlands to win

The Netherlands have quietly assembled a squad capable of troubling anyone on their day.

Norway, while boasting some exciting talent, simply don’t match the Netherlands in terms of overall quality and depth. There are gaps in key areas of their squad that could be exposed.

With a more balanced side and strength across the pitch, the Dutch should have enough to control this game.

Netherlands to win.

Mexico vs Portugal

Portugal to win

Portugal are a team that always feel like they have another level to reach – yet don’t always hit it consistently.

Mexico will bring energy and unpredictability, which can make them dangerous. But against a side with Portugal’s experience and composure, that alone may not be enough.

This feels like a game that will hinge on patience, and Portugal have the quality to produce a decisive moment when it matters.

It may not be pretty, but Portugal should get it done.

Spain vs Egypt

• (Tuesday, 31 March 17:00 ET / 20:00 GMT)

Spain to win

Spain have a clear identity, and when it does work well – which it usually does – it’s suffocating.

Egypt will look to stay compact and disciplined, hoping to frustrate and maybe nick something on the break. But that’s a tall task against a team as strong as Spain, who are masters at breaking the low block.

This has all the makings of a slow-burn game that eventually tilts Spain’s way. Spain to win.
