The Super Bowl may be the main event on Sunday, February 8, but there’s a marquee matchup in the Premier League, where Liverpool welcomes Manchester City in a vital game at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool have endured a turbulent season, though will arrive here threatening to climb back into the Champions League qualification spots.

Manager Arne Slot’s side got their season back on track with a comfortable win over Newcastle last weekend, following five Premier League matches without a win.

Beating Newcastle at home isn’t the most difficult thing to do in football, just ask anyone that isn’t Everton or Burnley, as proved by Sunday night’s visitors, during the week.

Manchester City booked their place in the Carabao Cup final by defeating the Magpies 3-1 on Wednesday night, without ever looking troubled.

Their Premier League form does need a turnaround, however, as manager Pep Guardiola’s side can’t afford to lose anymore ground to Arsenal in the Premier League title race.

The gap now stands at six points before this weekend’s round of fixtures, and with Arsenal at home to Sunderland, it’s unlikely to shorten.

What are the best bets for Liverpool vs Man City?

Both teams to score, Over 3.5 goals

This has all the potential to be a Premier League classic, and given that neither team can defend at the moment, I would expect to see goals.

From their latest eight matches, Liverpool have scored at least two goals in six of them, whilst Man City have netted twice in all eight of them.

I’d definitely back both teams to score in this match, as well as over 3.5 goals, as both teams need a win for their respective seasonal targets.

Hugo Ekitike to score

Hugo Ekitike scored twice in the win over Newcastle and will look to continue his good form in this crucial fixture.

Back him to score as he is certain to start the game, and the same can’t be said for Omar Marmoush or Erling Haaland, as Guardiola’s squad rotation could strike at any moment.
