Newcastle and Manchester City will clash for the fifth time in the 2025/26 season on Saturday night, as the two clubs meet in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The hosts overcame some questionable officiating and poor league form to defeat Manchester United in their latest English Premier League match.
William Osula stole the show when he came on and won the match with a stunning left-footed strike, just before stoppage time at the end of the match.
Manager Eddie Howe’s side saw their 1-0 lead erased just moments after Anthony Gordon’s opener, which came after they were reduced to 10 men.
The result saw Newcastle win their first Premier League match at home since January, following three consecutive losses at St James’ Park.
The Magpies now return to FA Cup action having defeated Bournemouth and Aston Villa earlier in the competition.
Manchester City are preparing to face Newcastle for the fifth time this campaign, off the back of a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest.
City were also impacted by some dubious officiating when Erling Haaland was denied a penalty for what appeared to be a clear foul inside the box.
Nevertheless, manager Pep Guardiola’s side were held to a draw, which has seen them forfeit ground in the Premier League title race.
They now trail Arsenal by seven points in the Premier League table – albeit with a game in hand – but will take a break to return to domestic cup action ahead of their Carabao Cup final tie, with Arsenal, later this month.
CIty hammered Exeter and defeated Salford to qualify for this stage of the competition, the same tournament that they have finished runners-up in both of the last two seasons.
What are the best bets for Newcastle vs Man City?
Both teams to score, Newcastle to win
Whether because of the frequency in which it is played or the fact that both teams are ran by Middle Eastern oil fields, I don’t know, but a friend dubbed this game the ‘Oil Firm Derby.’
Either way, it made me laugh, as it is quite remarkable how many times these two sides have played each other in recent seasons.
City have been victorious three times against Newcastle so far this season, coming out on top in both legs of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie and once in the Premier League.
Their latest meeting came just two weeks ago, in a thrilling Premier League tie at the Etihad Stadium, in which City narrowly prevailed 2-1.
There are always goals when these two sides meet, and I’d expect more of the same in this match.
I’m taking both teams to score as well as Newcastle to win, maybe that’s a bit biased, but I am not even bothered.
I’ve been singing Osula’s name all day, and I would hope that such an important win would really motivate the players ahead of this match.
Newcastle have already beaten City at St James’ Park this season, and with City preoccupied by a title race and a cup final, I can see Newcastle edging this.
Anthony Gordon to score or assist
Anthony Gordon has sprung back to life recently, too, so back him to contribute to one of the goals.
