Nottingham Forest will host Brentford at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon, as both teams begin their 2025/26 English Premier League campaign.

Last season saw Forest qualify for the UEFA Conference League, though in-light of recent events regarding Crystal Palace, they will now play in the UEFA Europa League this season.

Despite interest from other clubs, Morgan Gibbs-White has penned a new three-year deal at the club – aiding optimism among the Forest faithful.

Manager Nuno Espírito Santo’s side have also signed Botafogo-duo Jair Cunha and Igor Jesus, while Dan Ndoye is the now-Newcastle United winger Anthony Elanga’s replacement.

Meanwhile, Brentford have secured the signing of veteran England international Jordan Henderson, as he arrives in West London after leaving Ajax on a free-transfer.

He joins Antoni Milambo and Caoimhín Kelleher as one of three notable incomings welcomed by new boss Keith Andrews, who takes over from Thomas Frank – now at Tottenham Hotspur.

This will be Andrews’ first job in sole-charge of a club and it hasn’t been made any easier by the departures of last season’s top goalscorer Bryan Mbuemo and captain Christian Norgaard to Manchester United and Arsenal, respectively.

I expect Forest to be more settled than Sunday’s opponents, given the departure of their manager as well as their captain and top goalscorer. 

Though Brentford did boast the best away record in the English Premier League last season, so I’m not against the Bees leaving Nottingham with a result, but a draw at best.
