Newcastle have won on their last two visits to Tottenham, and another difficult afternoon could await Spurs after their poor start to the new Premier League season.
The Magpies won 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in February, while the previous meeting in north London also ended in a Newcastle victory.
Tottenham were beaten 3-0 by Brentford on the opening weekend, with Roberto De Zerbi admitting his side need to develop a different mentality.
They did at least respond in midweek, beating Charlton 5-1 in the Carabao Cup, with new signing Sávinho scoring and assisting on his debut.
Newcastle were much more competitive in their opener, drawing 2-2 with Liverpool after twice taking the lead. They then came from behind to beat West Brom 3-2 in the cup, with Harvey Barnes scoring twice after coming off the bench.
That leaves both sides with plenty to prove. Newcastle have shown more so far in this Premier League campaign, but they face a Spurs side desperate to get points on the board.

What are the best picks for Tottenham vs Newcastle?
Both teams to score
This looks like the safest way into a game where neither defence has given much reason to expect a clean sheet.
Tottenham conceded three times at Brentford and gave the hosts too much space, particularly during a first half in which Spurs struggled to create much themselves.
The 5-1 win over Charlton was a welcome response, but it came against Championship opposition that had made several changes.
Newcastle, meanwhile, showed against Liverpool that they can create chances even against a much stronger side than Charlton – no disrespect to Charlton.
Four of the last five meetings between these sides have also seen both teams score, including the 2-1 Newcastle win in February.
Tottenham should create more at home than they did at Brentford, particularly after Sávinho’s impressive debut, but Newcastle have enough pace and attacking quality to find a way through.
Match draw
A draw could offer some value here given how evenly matched these sides look on paper.
Newcastle have already shown they can compete with top opposition after taking Liverpool to the final moments of their opening game.
Tottenham, though, should be much better at home than they were against Brentford – It will be hard to be much worse.
The Magpies have also had a busy start under Matthias Jaissle, with the Liverpool draw followed by a 3-2 cup win over West Brom.
Tottenham’s response against Charlton was impressive, but the real test comes against a Newcastle side with far more quality across the pitch.
The recent head-to-head record is another reason to consider the draw.
These games have often been close, and neither side looks reliable enough defensively to make a strong case for a comfortable win.

Sávinho to score anytime
Sávinho could be worth watching after making an immediate impact on his Tottenham debut.
The Brazilian came off the bench against Charlton and scored before setting up Ben Davies for Spurs’ fifth goal.
It was exactly the sort of performance De Zerbi will have wanted after spending £75m to bring him in from Manchester City.
The winger gives Tottenham another player who can take defenders on and create something without needing a perfect build-up.
De Zerbi has also backed Sávinho’s ability in one-on-one situations and believes he has the qualities to add more goals to his game.
Whether he starts or comes on later, Newcastle’s defensive changes could give him opportunities to attack space around the penalty area.

Tottenham should be a different side at home after the problems they had at Brentford, and the win over Charlton gives them some momentum.
But Newcastle have already shown they can compete with strong opposition. Their performance against Liverpool was much more convincing than Spurs’ opening-day display, and Jaissle’s side have now picked up their first win of the season in the cup.
The recent meetings also make it difficult to trust either defence. A draw with goals at both ends looks the most likely outcome.
