West Ham host Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend, with both teams – somehow – sitting inside the top four on the form table.

The Hammers looked all but set for relegation at Christmas, but have since found a run of form to give themselves hope – they do say it’s the hope that kills you.

Their only loss in their last five league games came thanks to a last-minute winner against Chelsea, who actually top the league form table.

Despite this revival tour, West Ham are still stuck in the relegation zone, three points from safety. It’s the footballing equivalent of finally sorting your life out but forgetting to pay your rent.

If they’re going to climb out of trouble, these are the fixtures they’ll circle in red – winnable games, at home, against good-but-not-terrifying opposition.

But this won’t be a stroll.

Bournemouth sit ninth in the table for a reason, and the loss of starman Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City in January doesn’t seem to have slowed The Cherries down much at all.

With new signing, Rayan, filling the void left by Semenyo immediately, scoring two goals in his first two appearances, whilst also assisting another, not a bad start to life in the Premier League.

The reverse fixture finished 2-2 in what can only be described as “very West Ham.” The Hammers led 2-0 at half-time thanks to a brace from Callum Wilson, only to watch it unravel in the second half as Bournemouth clawed their way back.

I think I’ve seen a big enough improvement from West Ham to back them to win here. Bournemouth are certainly more than capable of making me look stupid here, as if I don’t do a great job at that already.

If you’re the cautious type, the sort of person who looks both ways before stepping onto a treadmill, then perhaps a double chance – West Ham win or draw – is more your speed.
But I eat gas station sushi without asking about the sell-by date. So I’m backing West Ham outright.

Perhaps the biggest catalyst behind West Ham’s renaissance is Summerville’s electric run of form. He’s scored in six of the Hammers’ last seven games across all competitions, including an extra-time winner in the FA Cup last weekend.

He looks confident, direct, and like a man who’s just discovered he can ruin defenders’ weekends for a living.

If West Ham are going to get the three points, there’s a very good chance Summerville has something to say about it.

Back him to continue his run and score here – although I’ve already put him in my fantasy team, so he will probably blank.
