The world’s most popular and competitive league returns this August for what promises to be another electrifying chapter of English top-flight football. 

Entering its 34th season in the modern era, Liverpool arrived as the defending champions, coming off the back of a dominant season in Arne Slot’s debut campaign. 

However, will the Reds have enough in the tank to go back-to-back or will their rivals overcome this well-oiled machine?

EPL Bets writer Ethan Pitts takes a look at this season’s outright betting market for who is going to lift the Premier League title.

As the new season looms, Liverpool stand tall as the overwhelming favourites to go back-to-back and retain their Premier League crown next May. And it’s easy to see why. 

Despite losing the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz, to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich respectively, the Reds have arguably a stronger squad going into this campaign than the last.

They will be spearheaded once again by their captain Virgil van Dijk and last year’s Premier League Player of the Season Mo Salah – both of whom have committed their future to the club with bumper contract extensions. 

The signings of Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez and forward Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, add a new layer of youth and flair to an already vibrant side.

But let’s not forget Liverpool’s blockbuster £116million signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, who will look to add a bit of magic and dynamism to both their midfield and attack. 

The Reds are also sniffing around Newcastle’s Swedish star striker Alexander Isak as Slot aims to add more firepower to his side. 

Isak has made it clear he would like to depart the club and has given preference to last season’s champions. 

The signing of Isak would not only resemble a real coup for Liverpool, it would send out a clear statement of intent to the rest of the league and Europe.

Although this line may represent the smallest value in the market, it’s evident to see why Liverpool are so highly rated by the bookmakers considering both new and potential additions.

Arsenal to win the league E/W: 5/2 (10Bet) 

Under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have undergone a remarkable transformation – returning to their former prominence in both national and European competitions. 

For too long they have come so close, can the Gunners go one better and clinch their first Premier League title since 2004?

Arsenal have demonstrated for a number of seasons that they are more than capable of challenging for the Premier League title. 

However, a pattern of injuries to key players and a lack of squad depth in critical positions has been the ultimate reason for their ongoing failure.. 

The Gunners have been aggressive in the summer transfer window so far, acquiring key players in positions of need, none more notable than the signing of Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. 

In Gyokeres, Arsenal have one of football’s most potent attackers – anchored by his 46 goal contributions in 33 Liga Portugal games last season. 

Arteta has long-managed to succeed without a consistent goalscoring number-nine, now we get to see Arsenal potentially reach a new level with the man from Stockholm. 

The signing of England international Noni Madueke from Chelsea also eases the reliance on players like Bukayo Saka, who has recently suffered numerous injuries linked to the heavy workload placed on him in past seasons. 

This feels like Arteta’s most complete squad since his arrival at the club, and therefore the pressure is on now more than ever to complete this rebuild and overcome the likes of Liverpool.

However, despite the new signings it’s going to take a lot to overhaul Liverpool’s impressive squad. So let’s play a bit safer here and have Arsenal each-way at 5/2 with 10Bet, which will cover us if they finish second…or third if you can find a bookie willing to take three places.

Finally, we have the wildcard option in Chelsea, who offer the best price of the three but are the biggest outsider.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was seen as a high-risk high-reward appointment by the Blues in the summer of 2024, a year later the club now has two high-profile trophies to their name and Champions League qualification. That risk may well have paid off already. 

Their performance against UEFA Champions League champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final certainly set a precedent for this young and vibrant Chelsea side going forward. 

However, success will be entirely dependent on Maresca’s ability to narrow down their abundant inconsistencies. 

With talent like Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and a resurgent Enzo Fernandez, this Chelsea team now finally has the star-power to at-least go toe-to-toe with Liverpool and Arsenal this campaign. 

For these reasons, I believe that Chelsea exceeding everyone’s expectations this season is a very viable assertion. 

Albeit a longshot, the Blues have proven that they can beat any side when at their best, and a hypothetical increase in consistency may make the price of Chelsea to win the league look very interesting as the season goes on. Chalk the Blues down for an each-way punt too.
