FA Cup fifth round draw Confirmed: Premier League giants learn fate

The FA Cup fifth round draw has been completed, with the Premier League’s biggest clubs discovering their next opponents in the world’s oldest domestic cup competition.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City were among the heavyweights in the hat after safely navigating the fourth round, while Mansfield Town continued their remarkable run to join the top-flight elite at this stage.

The draw took place ahead of Macclesfield vs Brentford on Monday night, with Darren Fletcher and Ally McCoist hosting proceedings. Steven Gerrard and Joe Cole were tasked with drawing the balls.

Mansfield stunned Sheffield United in the third round before eliminating Burnley in the fourth. Wrexham edged Nottingham Forest on penalties earlier in the competition, while Sunderland knocked out Everton and followed it up by beating Oxford United.

Manchester City produced the biggest scoreline of the third round with a 10-1 demolition of Exeter City, and Liverpool cruised past Brighton in round four.

Arsenal returned to this stage for the first time since 2020 after a commanding 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic, while Chelsea brushed aside Hull City 4-0 to book their place.

Elsewhere, Newcastle overcame Aston Villa, Fulham beat Stoke City, and Wolves edged past Grimsby Town.

Leeds United needed penalties to squeeze past Birmingham City after a poor first-half performance.

Brentford’s clash with Macclesfield concluded the fourth round schedule before the draw.
