Manchester United’s summer rebuild has gotten off to a flyer and it isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.
After moving to strengthen their midfield with the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos from Aston Villa and Chelsea. Attention will now turn to the defence, where Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall remains Michael Carrick’s top target for left-back.
Lewis Hall tops Manchester United’s left-back wishlist
United identified several young left-backs before the transfer window opened, with Lewis Hall, Alejandro Balde and Nathaniel Brown all said to be under consideration.
Brown has since joined Bayern Munich, while Balde remains an option. However, Hall is understood to be the club’s current first choice, according to TEAMtalk.
At just 21, the defender brings a lot of great qualities. He is young, Premier League proven and capable of making the position his own for the long term.
Newcastle won’t hand Lewis Hall over without a fight
A deal won’t come cheaply.
Newcastle have already lost Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer, while Bruno Guimaraes is also apparently headed for the exit door.
Selling Hall as well would be another huge blow, meaning Manchester United would likely need to submit a significant offer.
£60m is the reported fee, which might seem steep at first glance. But you’re talking about a player who could easily be a starter for a decade.
Reports also suggest Hall would be open to the move, with the opportunity to eventually succeed Luke Shaw at Old Trafford seen as an appealing prospect.
Will Manchester United land Lewis Hall?
Hall looks like the perfect fit for United’s long-term plans, but convincing Newcastle to sell is another matter entirely.
With midfield reinforcements already through the door, don’t be surprised if United step up their pursuit before the transfer window closes. Whether Newcastle are willing to answer the phone is a different story altogether.
If both Hall and Bruno depart, this could be a very long season on Tyneside.
