Mohamed Salah has delivered one of the most astonishing interviews in Premier League history, revealing he no longer has a relationship with Liverpool boss Arne Slot.
The Egypt international also went on to suggest he has been “thrown under the bus” after being left on the bench for the third game running.
Salah did not play a single minute in the 3-3 draw at Leeds, and the Liverpool legend made clear he “couldn’t believe it”, adding that “someone wants me to get all the blame” during the team’s dismal run of form.
“It’s kind of funny, I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “It’s a disappointing result for us as a team. We conceded silly goals, same as we did before while I’m playing so I’m nobody could say I am attacking my team-mates because I’m on the bench.”
When pressed on what shocked him most, Salah replied: “That I’m sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. That’s the third time, I think for the first time in my career.
“I’m very disappointed, I’ve done so much for this club over years, especially last season. Sitting on the bench I don’t know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That’s how I feel it.”
He went further, accusing Liverpool of breaking promises made to him when he signed his new contract in April. “It’s very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame. Club promised me a lot in summer. So far I’m on bench three games, so can’t say they have kept those promises.”
Slot’s relationship with Salah has collapsed
Mohamed Salah also said his relationship at Liverpool with Slot has collapsed without explanation. “I say many times I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship, I don’t know why. It seems like someone does not want me in the club.”
The forward then spoke emotionally about next week’s home match. “Just going to be at Anfield and say goodbye to the fans and go to the Africa Cup. I don’t know what is going to happen when I am there.”
He also hit back at Jamie Carragher after recent criticism. “I’m a top scorer, best player, winning the league in such a style. I‘m the one who has to defend himself in front of the media and the fans, everyone.”
Salah insisted he is being treated differently to other Premier League stars. “I remember Harry Kane was not scoring for 10 games. Everyone in the media was: ‘Harry will score for sure.’ When it comes to Mo ‘he needs to be on the bench.’”
He confirmed Slot told him personally that he would not start. “I had a meeting with him, yeah.” Asked whether his feelings were made clear, he added: “He knows my feelings.”
