Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank after a troubled start to the 2025/26 season.
The club confirmed the decision on Wednesday, February 11, just hours after Spurs lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle United in a Premier League fixture.

Frank, 52, was appointed by Tottenham in June 2025 after leaving Brentford, where he earned praise for building a competitive team on a limited budget. Spurs reportedly paid around £6.7 million in compensation to bring Frank and his coaching staff to north London.
The Dane leaves his post after just eight months in charge, following a run of poor league form that saw Tottenham fall to 16th in the Premier League, only five points above the relegation zone.
Spurs have struggled domestically this season, winning only seven of their 17 league games under Frank, despite some success in Europe.
Tottenham’s Champions League campaign has been more positive, with the team reaching the round of 16, but that was not enough to shield Frank from criticism.
Fans were increasingly frustrated by the team’s style of play and lack of attacking spark, booing the coach at matches and chanting for former manager Mauricio Pochettino.
Newcastle defeat the final straw
The home defeat to Newcastle proved to be the final straw. Tottenham have endured seven home league losses this season and have not won in the Premier League in 2026, further undermining confidence in Frank’s leadership.
“The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today,” the club statement said.
“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together.
“However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.
The sacking marks Tottenham’s sixth permanent managerial change in seven years, highlighting the instability that has rocked the club since Mauricio Pochettino’s departure in 2019.
Attention now turns to a successor, with Spurs under pressure to arrest their decline with 12 Premier League matches remaining. A tough fixture list lies ahead, including a high-profile derby against Arsenal in 12 days.
