England manager Thomas Tuchel has backed Jude Bellingham after the midfielder became involved in a heated exchange with Ghana boss Carlos Queiroz during Tuesday’s 0-0 World Cup draw.
The incident happened shortly before half-time at Boston Stadium. Bellingham was involved in a strong challenge on Ghana defender Jerome Opoku, which sparked frustration on the Ghana bench.
As the referee blew for the break, tensions spilled over. Bellingham exchanged words with Queiroz and members of the Ghana coaching staff. England teammate Morgan Rogers eventually stepped in to pull the midfielder away.
Despite the confrontation, no cards were shown, and the situation calmed down before the second half began.
Tuchel Supports Bellingham After Ghana Incident
Speaking after the match, Tuchel defended the England star and insisted the situation was simply an emotional moment during a competitive game.
“It was an exchange of emotions, and Jude stood up for himself and his team.” Tuchel said.
The England manager also warned against allowing off-field incidents to become distractions during the World Cup.
“Emotions are part of football, but we don’t want to get distracted by things that take our focus away from the game.”
Ghana manager Carlos Queiroz offered his own explanation for the incident. According to Queiroz, comments from the Ghana bench contributed to Bellingham’s reaction.
“He had a bad reaction to some bad names and that’s why the story started.” Queiroz said.
England remain top of Group L
The draw means England remain top of Group L and are still in a strong position to reach the knockout stages.
Tuchel’s side will secure qualification for the last 32 if they avoid defeat against Panama in their next match.
While the result was not as exciting as England’s opening 4-2 victory over Croatia, it keeps the Three Lions firmly on track in the tournament.
Jude Bellingham reaches England milestone

The England star also made it clear that he respects the former Manchester United coach.
“I recognised their manager. He’s obviously the one who used to be at Manchester United, so I have great respect for him. It was just competitive football.”

The England manager had previously challenged the midfielder to earn his position, while their relationship has often been discussed by fans and the media.
Earlier in his England reign, Tuchel criticised Bellingham’s behaviour during a defeat to Senegal before later apologising for his comments. He also reviewed the midfielder’s reaction after being substituted during a qualifier against Albania.
However, Bellingham has responded well on the pitch.
He scored in England’s opening win over Croatia and followed that performance with another energetic display against Ghana.
Bellingham questions Player Of The Match Award
Despite being named Player of the Match, Bellingham was not convinced he deserved the award.
“I didn’t deserve it, to be honest.” he said.
“It probably should have gone to one of their defenders because they defended so well.”
The midfielder admitted he struggled to fully influence the game but appreciated the recognition.
England will now turn their attention to Panama, knowing that a positive result will secure their place in the knockout rounds.
For Bellingham, the focus will be on football rather than touchline drama as England continue their World Cup campaign.
