Barcelona will host Newcastle in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie on Wednesday night, with the two sides level at 1-1 following last week’s first leg.
The hosts needed all of stoppage time – at the end of the second half – to draw level at St James’ Park, and they did so courtesy of Lamine Yamal’s penalty.
Barcelona have since maintained their gap at the top of the La Liga table, with an emphatic home victory over Sevilla.
Manager Hansi Flick’s side now return to the Nou Camp having progressed in all 10 of their previous Round Of 16 matches, in which they have drawn the first leg away from home.
A spirited display both on and off the pitch wasn’t enough to see Newcastle take a 1-0 lead to Catalonia.
Harvey Barnes’ late opener looked to be enough for the win, only for Dani Olmo to win a penalty with the last kick of the game.
Manager Eddie Howe’s side are unbeaten in their last three UEFA Champions League away matches and will arrive here off the back of a win at Stamford Bridge, defeating Chelsea away from home for only the second time in the Premier League.
What are the best bets for Barcelona vs Newcastle?
Barcelona to win
Honestly, I don’t know what to expect from this match, and I say that as a Newcastle United season ticket holder.
Newcastle are a team that thrives off of the big occasion, and on their day, they raise their performance to a level that is capable of beating any side.
However, Barcelona in a Champions League knockout game may be where the Magpies’ European endeavours end this season.
The hosts are looking to make it 18 consecutive home victories in this match, having lost only one match at the Nou Camp so far this campaign.
Anthony Gordon to score or assist
Barcelona’s high defensive line leaves them open to passes in behind, so expect Anthony Gordon to be involved in anything Newcastle create.
Only Kylian Mbappe has recorded more Champions League goal contributions than the England winger, so far this season.
Take Barcelona to win, but I’m backing Gordon to score or assist, given his form in the competition this season.
