Antoine Semenyo and Bruno Guimaraes hold the Carabao Cup

Man City vs Newcastle picks, predictions and how to watch

Man City to win: -125

Man City to win to nil: +232

Bernardo Silva to score or assist: +240

Two goals up and unbeaten in domestic home matches since August, Manchester City will host holders Newcastle in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

City took charge in the first leg of the tie and looked to be heading back to the Etihad Stadium with a one-goal lead, until new signing Antoine Semenyo netted in the final minutes.

It more than likely takes the tie out of reach for Newcastle, though City haven’t been bomb proof in recent weeks.

They lost the Manchester Derby and could only manage a 2-2 draw away to Tottenham at the weekend, despite going 2-0 up.

From Paris to Liverpool to Manchester isn’t a new song by Infernal, I promise, it’s actually part of Newcastle’s gruelling fixture schedule.

The Magpies now travel to face Manchester City for the second of three matches in which they will face manager Pep Guardiola’s side, between the start of 2026 and before the end of February.

Forfeiting leads has been a disappointing theme of Newcastle’s season and continued in their latest Premier League match on Saturday night, as they succumbed to a 4-1 loss away to Liverpool, despite taking the lead.

Manager Eddie Howe’s side now need to do something that they haven’t done since 2012, in this competition, which is to defeat Manchester City away from home, if they are to defend their Carabao Cup title.

What are the best bets for Man City vs Newcastle?

Man City to win

The home side hold the upper hand in almost every metric, so if you like backing longshots, it doesn’t get any more daft than backing Newcastle to win this match.

The absence of Bruno Guimaraes is badly affecting the Magpies, and without the Brazilian radgie, I cannot see anything other than a Newcastle loss.

I say that as someone who was in Paris last week, witnessed the 4-1 thrashing at Anfield and is going to be in the away end on Wednesday night.

Man City to win to nil

Man City to win to nil is probably the way that I would go in this game, because of City’s home record against Newcastle and Newcastle’s lack of goals away from home.

Having watched Newcastle struggle against Man City so many times over the years, I can say with confidence that Erling Haaland won’t be the issue.

Bernardo Silva to score

City’s main threat will come from any one of Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden or Semenyo.

For the purpose of bigger odds, I’d probably back Silva, who netted a brace when the two sides met in the FA Cup in 2024.
