Newcastle United welcome an unbeaten Hull City to St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon with the two sides heading into this one in very different moods.
The Magpies were hammered 4-1 by Leeds on Monday night. They have now conceded eight goals in four Premier League games and faced more shots than any other side in the division.
Hull, meanwhile, are flying.
Sergej Jakirović’s side have taken eight points from their opening four games. They beat Manchester United and Coventry before drawing with Aston Villa and Chelsea. Only Arsenal have conceded fewer than Hull’s two league goals.
The Tigers did not scrape their point at Stamford Bridge either. Mohamed Belloumi scored twice and Hull led 2-1 before João Pedro rescued Chelsea in the second half.
Newcastle badly need a response. Hull will arrive on Tyneside wondering why their unbeaten run should stop here.

Four games into the season, Hull have given us very little reason to oppose them.

That should interest a Hull side growing in confidence.
Belloumi scored twice at Stamford Bridge, while Oli McBurnie gives the Tigers a physical presence through the middle.
We could go for the outright away win. However, draw no bet gives us some protection if the points are shared.
If Hull continue playing as they have, three points would hardly be a shock.
Both teams to score
Hull’s defensive record has been excellent.
However, keeping Newcastle quiet at St James’ Park could be their biggest test so far.
The Magpies should create chances in front of their own supporters. They also need a response after what happened at Leeds.
The problem is trusting them at the other end.
Newcastle were far too easy to play through on Monday. Leeds scored four and also missed two big chances.
Hull have already shown they can punish those weaknesses.
They went to Stamford Bridge last weekend and scored twice. Belloumi’s quick-fire double even had the Tigers leading at half-time.
We fancy Newcastle to score at home.
We just don’t fancy them to keep Hull out.

Newcastle should see plenty of the ball at St James’ Park.
Jaissle has made it clear that Monday’s defeat will not convince him to abandon his attacking approach. He remains committed to the style he is trying to build at Newcastle.
That should mean plenty of pressure on Hull’s defence.
However, the Tigers have shown they are more than capable of attacking themselves.
They caused Chelsea plenty of problems at Stamford Bridge and will look to break quickly again on Saturday.
Newcastle’s last league game also produced 10 corners, with both sides winning five each.

Jaissle is refusing to panic after Newcastle’s heavy defeat at Leeds.
The German was asked whether he could change his system against Hull. His answer was simply:
“No.”
Jaissle instead wants Newcastle to stick with the project despite the difficult result.
“If there’s one setback, we shouldn’t delete our journey or our vision.”
He also praised Jakirović’s work at Hull, describing it as an “incredible job”.

Jakirović was delighted with Hull’s performance after they earned a point at Chelsea.
“I said I’m happy with one point even a lot of people told me that maybe we should have won this game.”
The Hull boss is also expecting Newcastle to produce a response after their defeat at Leeds.
“We will try to still be unbeaten but I’m expecting a very tough game especially after Newcastle’s defeat at Leeds.”

Hull’s start is becoming increasingly difficult to dismiss.
They are unbeaten after four games and have already shown they can get results against some strong sides.
Newcastle are in a very different place.
Monday’s defeat at Leeds exposed some major defensive problems. Their injury list is not helping either.
Playing at St James’ Park should bring a response from the Magpies. That is why we still fancy them to score.
However, Hull have enough attacking threat to punish Newcastle at the other end.
