After a midweek packed with Carabao Cup ties and Champions League action, the Premier League is back this weekend. Because apparently football fans were in danger of having too much free time.

There are some interesting fixtures on the schedule, with a few big sides facing opponents they will be expected to beat.

That does not necessarily mean they will make life easy for us. Football rarely does.

We have picked out four teams that we think have what it takes to get the job done. One of them will no doubt make life more stressful than it needs to be.

Liverpool vs Fulham

Saturday, September 12 (15:00 GMT / 10:00 EST)

Liverpool to win

Liverpool welcome Fulham to Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Iraola’s side have finally found some momentum after a frustrating start to the season. They beat Ipswich 2-0 for their first Premier League win before edging past Atletico Madrid 2-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday.

That should have Liverpool feeling rather better about themselves than they did a week ago.

The Reds also have plenty of attacking firepower, with Alexander Isak looking sharp after his brace against Ipswich. Cody Gakpo also provided both assists in that game.

Fulham, meanwhile, have lost all three of their Premier League matches.

Álvaro Arbeloa’s side have scored four goals so far but conceded seven, including three in their latest defeat to Crystal Palace.

That is not the sort of defensive record you want to take to Anfield.

Fulham can cause problems, but Liverpool should have enough quality to take control.

Coventry City vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Sunday, September 13 (14:00 GMT / 9:00 EST)

Brighton to win

Brighton travel to Coventry on Sunday looking to continue their solid start.

Fabian Hürzeler’s side have taken four points from their opening three games, with their only dropped points coming against Leeds and a defeat to Chelsea.

There has been plenty to like about Brighton’s performances.

They have looked comfortable in possession and have several players capable of causing problems in the final third. Malick Yalcouyé has also caught the eye in midfield after making a strong start to the campaign.

Coventry have had a much tougher introduction to life in the Premier League.

Frank Lampard’s side have lost their opening three matches, although they pushed Manchester City hard before eventually going down 1-0 at the Etihad.

That will give them some encouragement, but Brighton should have more than enough to make this another frustrating afternoon for the hosts.

Chelsea vs Hull City

Saturday, September 10 (15:00 GMT / 10:00 EST)

Chelsea to win.

Chelsea face Hull City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Blues have made a decent start to the season and sit near the top end of the table despite suffering their first defeat against Arsenal last weekend.

They were ahead in that game before eventually losing 2-1, but bounced back in midweek with a convincing 6-3 victory over Leeds in the Carabao Cup.

That should have restored some confidence. Especially given they came back from 2-0 down.

Hull deserve credit for their own start, though.

The newly promoted side have remained unbeaten in the league and have shown that they are not simply here to enjoy the scenery.

They did get beaten 1-0 on Tuesday night by Sunderland up at the Stadium of Light, but the league is where your bread is buttered.

They are also the only team in the Football League not to have conceded a goal yet.

Chelsea will therefore need to be patient. Even if they are scoring for fun at the minute.

The difference in squad quality should eventually tell, though, particularly with home advantage behind them.

Leeds United vs Newcastle United

Monday, September 14 (20:00 GMT / 17:00 EST)

Newcastle to win.

Newcastle round off our four selections with a trip to Leeds on Monday night.

This is the one that makes us slightly nervous.

Both sides have taken five points from their opening three games, so Leeds will not be rolling out the red carpet for Newcastle.

Matthias Jaissle’s side had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth in their last league game after falling two goals behind.

Jacob Ramsey came off the bench to rescue a point, while Harvey Barnes was also on the scoresheet.

Newcastle have already shown plenty of character this season, though, and they have faced some strong opposition during their opening weeks.

Leeds will make this uncomfortable at Elland Road. That much is pretty safe to assume.

However, Newcastle have enough attacking quality to punish any mistakes and we are backing them to come away with all three points.
