Enzo Fernández transferring from Chelsea to Manchester City late on transfer deadline day was the headline move to close out the summer window on September 1.
However, the biggest stories surrounded Chelsea and Everton, with both clubs experiencing controversial dealings with Ligue 1 side Monaco.
Chelsea swooped to secure a deal for Monaco’s Lamine Camara to replace Fernández, while Everton, who have been looking for reinforcements throughout the window, made a move for Folarin Balogun earlier on Tuesday.

“Manchester City are the most successful club in England in recent times,” Fernández said after his Premier League transfer-record-equalling move.
“Every player wants to be part of a club like this because everyone knows how well-run City are.
“I could not be happier to be here, and I am ready for the challenge of helping City continue winning trophies. This is a club built for success.
“If you look across the squad, City have quality in every area. I want to learn from my new team-mates and become a better player.
“I pride myself on continually improving my game. Anyone who’s worked with me will know how hard I train every single day and how much I put into matches.
“I give absolutely everything and I can promise Manchester City that will continue now I’m here.”

Chelsea and Everton controversy
Chelsea’s £47 million deal for Camara, meanwhile, was reportedly voided at the last minute by Monaco after they had renegotiated a deal to sell Balogun to Everton, only for the USA international to pull out of the deal at the 11th hour.
Sky Sports reports Everton have been left with a feeling of distaste over the striker’s behaviour, while Chelsea feel the French club are “extraordinarily and deeply unprofessional”.
Due to this controversy, Chelsea could have chosen to collapse Fernández’s transfer to Man City as they needed a midfield replacement, but they stuck to their word in good faith.
As for what the Blues will think of Monaco going forward, it seems to be a case of “what goes around comes around”.
