Roma are set to step up their interest in Joshua Zirkzee, with the Italian club preparing a proposal to sign the Manchester United forward, according to Sky in Italy.
Discussions are expected to start soon, as Roma look to reinforce their attack ahead of the January transfer window.
The Serie A side are planning to explore a deal that would initially see Zirkzee arrive on loan.
The proposed structure is likely to include a right to buy, which would become active if certain performance-related conditions are met.
Sky Sports News reported earlier in December that Manchester United were aware of Roma’s interest but are not currently pushing to sell the 24-year-old.
United’s stance appears to be that they are open to conversations, but any move would need to benefit them either financially or in terms of long-term squad planning.
For now, the English Premier League club are not actively trying to move Zirkzee on.

A quest for minutes and growth
Zirkzee has struggled for consistent minutes and form since joining United from Bologna in the summer of 2024.
He arrived for a fee of around £36.5m after impressing in Serie A, but has found it difficult to establish himself at Old Trafford.
Across all competitions, he has scored eight goals in 60 appearances for United, leaving questions about his long-term role at the club.
This season, his impact has been limited, with just one goal in 11 appearances. That goal did come at an important moment, as he scored the equaliser in United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in November.
Struggling for starts
Rome could appeal to the Dutch forward for footballing reasons. Under Ruben Amorim, United have been rotating their forward options, and Zirkzee has struggled for starts.
A move to Serie A may offer him more regular opportunities, and Roma see him as a player who fits both their style of play and long-term project.
Despite that, the situation is not straightforward. Roma will need to structure a deal that convinces United, and the Premier League club are expected to take their time evaluating the proposal.
For now, Roma are reportedly preparing their approach and are expected to make contact before the final weekend of 2025.
