England extended their winning streak to three games with a 3-0 win over Czechia at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday, October 6.
Skipper Harry Kane was the star of the night, scoring twice as he celebrated his record-equalling 125th cap for England.
Following their opening 3-2 defeat to Spain at the start of their UEFA Nations League campaign, the Three Lions have responded with three consecutive wins and clean sheets.
Czechia and Croatia might not offer the same test as Spain, but there is no denying that England are playing like a more cohesive unit as they continue to settle under Thomas Tuchel.
On Tuesday, England opened the scoring through an own goal by Czech defender Vladimir Coufal from a Kane cross.
The Bayern Munich forward doubled the lead shortly before half-time from an assist by Morgan Rogers.
On a night when England had chances galore, Kane scored the third and final goal of the game in the 57th minute to cap a historic night for himself.
‘Right up there’
Speaking after the game, Kane said, “It’s right up there.
“There are so many milestones throughout my career, looking back to my England debut and how much of a dream come true that was, I think this is even beyond my wildest dreams.
“To be now at 125, it’s just an extreme privilege.
“I love coming to every England camp, I love playing in every game and representing the country in the best way possible. Tonight was a special night.
“The most important thing was the victory and the win. It’s not about me, it’s about the team.
“To help the team achieve it with a couple of goals and a good team performance and finish the week strong, it’s been a perfect night for me.”
Tuchel on moving past the World Cup
The Nations League marks Tuchel’s second tournament as England head coach.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup was his first, and he took the Three Lions to the semi-finals, where they lost 2-1 to Argentina, before beating France 6-4 for the bronze medal.
It was a promising campaign for England, with many disappointed in how it all came to an end.
When asked if England had moved forward from the World Cup, Tuchel said, “Yeah of course and it’s what we have to do. That is our goal, to constantly improve and develop.
“We have these experiences together and we had a big tournament together and it was still very positive and still it’s necessary to move forward and to improve, especially in sports. And this is what we’re trying to do.
Adjustments to structure
“We adjusted some details in our structure and we didn’t compromise on the effort and the intensity and on the togetherness of the team.
“The players who were with us in the World Cup, they took care of these standards and of the culture within the team, off the pitch and on the pitch.
“And I think that’s what you could see and you just could see the positive on a long camp is that you have time for debriefs, that you have time for meetings, you have more time for training, you spend more time together.”
